The pH/ORP instrument can simultaneously measure pH value and oxidation-reduction potential (ORP). They primarily rely on integrated pH and ORP sensors within the device. These sensors are typically installed on the same probe or in close proximity to enable simultaneous monitoring of pH and ORP values for the same test sample.
pH Sensor. When the measuring electrode containing hydrogen ion sensitive glass is immersed in the test solution, the glass surface will exchange with H+ ions in the water, generating a potential difference between the measuring electrode and the reference electrode. The potential difference is logarithmically related to the pH value of the solution.
ORP Sensor. When the ORP electrode (usually platinum or gold electrode) is immersed in the solution, the electrode surface will react with oxidants or reductants in the solution, causing changes in the electrode potential. The potential difference between the ORP electrode and the reference electrode reflects the oxidation-reduction state of the solution.
The electronic circuits and microprocessors in the analysis instrument convert the potential difference into digital signals, displaying pH and ORP values in real-time.
